Many of us have this complaint that companies take quite a long for releasing a newer version of the products. And Google is no exception but now Google has shown some seriousness on Chrome and has decided that it will release its version quite often. On its Chromium Blog, it says:
We have three fundamental goals in reducing the cycle time:
- Shorten the release cycle and still get great features in front of users when they are ready
- Make the schedule more predictable and easier to scope
- Reduce the pressure on engineering to “make” a release
Reason is quite simple, Google dont want people to wait for months for new features. It says it gonna release new stable version of Chrome about once every “Six Week“. Wow! thats quite fast.
Google often talk about “Speed” and how it effect search and web ranking. With newer version every six week, people get to see lots of new features which will help, improve their Websites. Another thing is, people can also check all the features which are bundled with the new release.
Another reason for these frequent releases is that it will reduce the pressure on the engineers. Since it gonna release new version every six week, those feature which are not complete yet can simply go to the next release, when they are ready. At present, Chrome is running version 5, so get ready for more stable Chrome version i.e. 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 in the coming weeks.
