Many of us have this complaint that companies take quite a long for releasing a newer version of the products. And Google is no exception but now Google has shown some seriousness on Chrome and has decided that it will release its version quite often. On its Chromium Blog, it says:

We have three fundamental goals in reducing the cycle time:

Shorten the release cycle and still get great features in front of users when they are ready

Make the schedule more predictable and easier to scope

Reduce the pressure on engineering to “make” a release

Reason is quite simple, Google dont want people to wait for months for new features. It says it gonna release new stable version of Chrome about once every “Six Week“. Wow! thats quite fast.

Google often talk about “Speed” and how it effect search and web ranking. With newer version every six week, people get to see lots of new features which will help, improve their Websites. Another thing is, people can also check all the features which are bundled with the new release.

Another reason for these frequent releases is that it will reduce the pressure on the engineers. Since it gonna release new version every six week, those feature which are not complete yet can simply go to the next release, when they are ready. At present, Chrome is running version 5, so get ready for more stable Chrome version i.e. 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 in the coming weeks.

But from the time, Google Chrome has launched, many has shifted to Chrome from Firefox due to number of reason i.e. Speed, Simplicity & Security.

Recently, some new features that have been added in Google Chrome Browser to increase productivity which are as follows:

The Scripts panel now allows editing JavaScript without having to reload the page. Just double-click on the line in the function body while debugging and make your changes. It’ll patch the underlying optimized machine code at run-time and continue the execution.

CPU profiler captures the state of your app at a rate of 1,000 samples per second without modifications to the running optimized machine code. The resulting tree view makes it easy to find out where to focus efforts on speeding up the web app.

The new Timeline panel provides a simple view of the AJAX application execution. It records everything that happens in the browser from JavaScript execution to styles re-calculations and then visualizes it in a simple waterfall with timing information and traces to the source code.

The improved Heap profiler can take snapshots of the JavaScript heap, visualize and compare them. This makes finding and fighting memory leaks a much easier task.

The Answer is NO.

Chromium OS is Open Source and free, but to make Chrome OS, there will be closed source programs and possiblly licence fee to be paid to include this closed source programs.

Sundar Pichai – Google’s VP of Product Management while speaking at an event says –

“This is all about offering a choice for users.

We’re not going to go into too much detail about going to market today. We’re working on the software right now, but we are also working with manufacturers on the hardware level. For example, we only support solid-state drives and certain types of WiFi cards.

In Chrome OS every application is a web application. There are no native applications. That gives us simplicity. It’s just a browser with a few modifications. And all data is Chrome OS is in the cloud.

You cannot download and install Chrome on any machine. You will have to buy a new one. “

Yes, Chromium OS can be installed on any machine yourself by download. But there will be a very important part missing from Google Chrome OS.

I will explain how is it possible. I can explain from some experience from Android mobile OS.

Part of Android is open source.

To make real Android, Google’s closed source program is needed. And it is not free and someone, like phone manufacturer or network provider need to pay.

Keep logging to our blog to find more about how Android works.
